The Visual Arts Centre Helga Helga de Alvear Foundation of Cáceres is keen to modernize communication and promotion systems for connecting with the public via new technologies, in particular, via apps designed for mobile devices. Thanks to its pioneering role in this field –it was one of the first centres working with contemporary art in Spain to release a free downloadable app in 2011– the Centre, and alongside it Cáceres and Extremadura, is able to connect with millions of potential users around the world.
The apps developed by Imanguxara –a design and technology firm– set out to provide this potential public, often unable to visit the Centre in person, the opportunity to enjoy a virtual tour of its temporary exhibitions. It allows virtual visitors to see how the works of art were conceptually arranged and displayed in the Centre’s various spaces by the curators of the exhibitions.
The apps allow the user to “move” through interactive maps of the different levels of the Visual Arts Centre and to walk through its spaces. In each of them, one can simply click on the picture of the work of art on display to access a higher quality picture of the piece, its technical details and a biography of the artist – all of which are available in both English and Spanish. In addition the user has the option to share this information with friends on social networks. Apps are available for iphone, ipad, ipod touch and Android’s, they can be downloaded for free at the App Store and Google play.
They can also be used to plan a visit to the Centre, by consulting the specific app for the current temporary exhibition, or to relive the experience of past exhibitions. The apps are also perfectly adapted to use as teaching aids for classrooms, courses, conferences, and so on.
Get your hands on this enjoyable, friendly and visually striking way of tapping into the experience of viewing the Helga de Alvear Foundation’s Art Collection!!!
